Pleasant Mountain, fun year-round!
It’s a gorgeous one out there, have any of you hiked the trails on the Pleasant Mountain trail network? I did the Ledges Trail last night after work and enjoyed the start of the beautiful sunset! That said, getting down was a little dark… kept thinking I’d run into Manny’s brother, Jim 🙂 If you are in the area this fall or looking for an activity – I would highly encourage you to check it out. The Loon Echo website has more info and of course, you are also free to hike your favorite ski trails 🙂
Pleasant Mountain is Southern Maine’s tallest Mountain, both of the pictures were taken from the 2,006 foot summit. Above is an old Forest Service fire tower. The Ledges Trail also has an outcrop about halfway up, with stunning views of Moose Pond. The trail is 1.8 miles, took me about 75 minutes round-trip. There are other (shorter and longer) options to get to the top as well.
harnessing energy from the sun, year round!
Continuing with the sunny day theme – some recent news – Shawnee Peak is installing a rooftop solar array! We’ve always been a big proponent of energy efficiency, both from an energy consumption standpoint and doing our small part to be stewards of the environment – so, we’ve partnered with ReVision Energy to develop a solar plant that will provide enough power for 4 of our 6 buildings!
For you solar geeks or curious readers – this project is expected to generate 23,000 KwH annually, offsetting 24,000 pounds of carbon pollution. ReVision was on site last week to finalize some outstanding issues; we are excited to go to the next steps! Our project is in the queue for a mid-October installation. We will do a dedicated post once up and running, please check the blog and social media for updates!
That’s all for now! Hope you enjoy the dog days of summer and find a way to get outside!
