Snowmaking Started Friday, December 5, 2008

Date: December 6, 2008

Bridgton, ME - Shawnee Peak Ski Area began snowmaking operations on Friday evening, December 5, 2008 for the 2008-09 ski season.
"This is the first time in recent memory that we've been this close to reaching capacity on the first night of snowmaking," said Ed Rock, General Manager of Shawnee Peak. "Normally, we only run 40-50% of our guns on the first night, but with the new high-efficiency guns and near-perfect temperatures, we got nearly 90% of our guns running."
Shawnee Peak snowmaking operations focused on four beginner trails including Rabbit Run, West Slope, Happiness Is and Li'l Pine, and three intermediate trails including Pine Slope, The Main and The Horn.
Opening day for skiing is scheduled for December 13, 2008 with lift operations from 9am-4pm. Remember - Sunday, December 14, Shawnee Peak will offer $20 lift tickets with a donation of three non-perishable or canned food items.
