Shawnee Peak Provides Free Season Passes Worth $350,000

Date: May 27, 2009

Passes Issued to Deployed Soldiers and their Dependents and Patients at Maine Children’s Cancer Program
Bridgton, ME  -  Shawnee Peak Ski Area issued 812 complimentary season passes during the 2008-09 winter season – a total value of $350,000.

“Kids Skiing for Kids” Program Is In Its Second Year
Families with patients being treated at Maine Children’s Cancer Program received season passes for themselves, both parents and all siblings as part of the “Kids Skiing for Kids” program.  Forty-five families took advantage of the offer. In addition, Shawnee Peak donated $12,500 to the Program, based at Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland, Maine.

Military Family Participation Grows Each Year
Shawnee Peak has been issuing complimentary season passes to soldiers deployed overseas and their dependents for six consecutive seasons.  Families with one or both parents deployed make unique sacrifices, for which they should be recognized and rewarded. In 2004, Chet Homer, Shawnee Peak owner, began extending complimentary skiing privileges and discounted equipment rentals and lessons to these military families.  Usage has grown consistently, with 625 passes issued during the 08-09 winter.

“Shawnee Peak is honored to be able to offer complimentary skiing and riding to these families, all of which face special challenges and make daily sacrifices,” said Homer.  “Winter mountain sports provide family togetherness and special memories.  We are pleased that participation grows each season.”
