Shawnee Peak Announces What's New for 2007-08
Bridgton, ME - Shawnee Peak is proud to announce a host of capital improvements, program enhancements and community/environmental initiatives to celebrate its 70th Consecutive Winter in operation!
High-Efficiency Snowmaking Delivery System
In an effort to provide more snow in the early season and deeper snow for late in the season, Shawnee Peak made a major investment in the highest-efficiency snowmaking pump delivery system available. The new computer-operated system will minimized power consumption, while increasing water pumping capacity by 40% during optimal snowmaking weather.
100% Carbon Neutral!
Shawnee Peak is dedicated to minimizing operational effects on the environment. To that end, last year, Shawnee Peak purchased wind power credits to offset 100% of its electricity use. This year, we have partnered with The Conservation Fund to plant more than 675 trees, which will offset all carbon emissions from heating oil, gasoline and propane usage!
"Kids Skiing for Kids" Program
Since purchasing the Shawnee Peak in 1994, Chet Homer has participated in the donation of more than $300,000 to national, regional and local charities. This year, Shawnee Peak will donate $15 from every kids season pass sold to the Maine Children's Cancer Program at Maine Medical Center - with a goal of $25,000 for the year! In addition, every patient in the program will receive a complimentary Family Pass for the 2007-08 ski season.
What Else is New
We've widened the popular beginner trail, "Happiness Is", by 100 feet. The 70th Anniversary Gala is scheduled for February 2, 2008. Thursdays are "Men's Day" - ski and have lunch for just $32! The 1st Annual American's Mattress Race is scheduled for March 29, 2008 - decorate and race your old mattress for a chance to win a new one! We'll even recycle your old mattress for you!
