The 40's
- 1943 – The Pleasant Mountain Ski Club (still in existence today) was formed. Operated under the leadership of Russ Haggett (2003 Inductee to the Maine Ski Hall of Fame), Ray Riley, Luke Evans, Jack Spratt, Wes Marco (2003 Inductee to the Maine Ski Hall of Fame & Maine's First Ski Instructor), and Sid Russell. Since its inception, the Pleasant Mountain Ski Club is largely responsible for teaching thousands of children to ski through its after-school ski program.
- 1946 – Russ Haggett became general manager of Pleasant Mountain. Added 2 more rope tows and obtained more land for trail development. Russ Haggett stayed at the mountain for more than 30 years, making skiing an accessible sport for all ages and incomes.

Pleasant Mountain as it once appeared. The trail in the center of the picture is in approximately the same place as the present-day Rabbit Run and West Slope trails. Notice the scant tree cover!
