The Ice Coast Challenge is Poised to Bridge the Gap Between Surfing and Snowboarding, Bringing the Ocean to the Mountain for a One of a Kind Snowboard Event.

3/26/2014

On March 29th, the East Coast's best snowboarders and surfers will descend on Shawnee Peak in Bridgton, Maine to try their hand on the Ice Coast Challenge wave course that is unlike anything ever seen before.  For the first time ever, a course is being built to mimic the ocean waves created by powerful Nor' Easter winter storms. There will be bottom and top turn features, floater sections, lined up walls with unique features sprinkled throughout the custom built 300’ dimensional spine ranging from knee to head high sections, and a stand up tube section to end it all!

The course will allow riders to draw their own unique and creative lines the same way you would approach surfing a wave in the ocean. Riders will be judged primarily on their style, creativity and use of the course. The Ice Coast Challenge will be covered by media outlets to include; Get In The Van, Snowboarder Magazine, and Eastern Surf Magazine. Spectators are encouraged to attend the live event at the base of Shawnee Peak, as viewing the event will be free and open to the public with live DJ’s and bands playing music all day and night.

“A ‘Surf Event on Snowboards' Are you kidding me? Drop-ins, waves, bottom turns, floaters, A STAND UP TUBE?? This is the kind of thing that Pioneers Board Shop has been dreaming about, and only a company like TriggerHouse, and a resort like Shawnee Peak could help bring something like this to life” says Bryan Johnson of Pioneers Board Shop.  “It's one thing to design this concept on a piece of paper while sharing a drink after a long day at the hill when the waves are flat, but the build plan for something this immense had our heads spinning. It's so rad to see a project like the Ice Coast Challenge break the mold with such a super progressive event on this scale.”
